Where do you send mission teams? YouthReach International currently works in 3 cities:
- Novosibirsk, Russia (the heart of Siberia)
- Donetsk, Ukraine (the eastern part of Ukraine)
- Simferopol, Ukraine (in Crimea)
How many people can be on a mission team? While team sizes may vary, we prefer teams of 6 to 8 people.
What ages can participate on a mission team We have had families with kids as young as 5, and adults in their 60's join our mission teams. There is a place for everyone. We do require that if a teenager wants to join a team that a responsible adult must also join the team and travel with the teenager.
What is the purpose of these mission teams? What will we do while in country? YouthReach International mission teams will work in special outreaches to connect our 12-3-1 Mentors to individual orphans/at-risk kids, creating the relationship that will be nurtured throughout the year. The mission team acts as a mentor to the 12-3-1 Mentors, encouraging them in their relationship building, lifting them up to God, and continuing the friendship between mission team member and 12-3-1 Mentor long after returning home. During this process, you'll also get the opportunity to play with and care for orphans, model Christian values, partner with your 12-3-1 Mentor in teaching Bibilical truths, and be the hands and the feet of the Father to the fatherless.
What happens the rest of the year? This is where we get really excited! Our 12-3-1 Mentors continue the mentoring relationships with the kids all year long. They visit the orphanages, take part in life skills training, monthly birthday programs, and spiritual development of the kids. Sign up for our newsletter on our web site to get the latest news throughout the year on our progress.
Will we get to have special tourist excursions during our trip? Let's start by saying this...
It's not about you. While you may have opportunities to visit some sites in key cities during layovers, that is not why you are joining this mission team. You are being called to minister to 12-3-1 Mentors and orphans to bring the hope of Jesus Christ to kids that need Him. If you get the chance to see some cool sites in the process, that's a bonus.
